Eyeliner is the ultimate defining boost for the face. It goes beyond framing the eyes, making not just a statement but putting a stamp on your personal style. Once bitten by the eyeliner bug, it’s virtually impossible to go back - even when you reach the age when beauty experts recommend you switch to a softer alternative. I’ve lost count of the number of times I’ve been preached to by influencers about how eyeliner can dreadfully age a wearer. And? I’ve never been put off - I feel naked without it! Which brings me to… the Revolution Metallic Duochrome Eyeliner.
A duochrome eyeliner wasn’t on my ‘must-have’ list - until I saw a video review of Revolution’s latest liner offering. I wasn’t so much drawn in by the duochrome effect; it was the vivid colours. Especially Deep Space Blue.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve had trouble with blue eyeliners in the past. They’ve either been too pale or don’t work particularly well in the waterline. What I’ve been looking for is a light-to-medium sapphire blue - very 1980s - with staying power.
This looked like it could be ‘it’.
A new duochrome makeover for the classic eyeliner
Revolution has launched its metallic effect duochrome eyeliner in four shades. In addition to the blue, there are shade shifting variations in purple, gold and green. They retail at £5.99 each.
I purchased the blue (of course!) and the green (Shifted Sparkle). These impulse buys followed some rather disappointing recent experiences with liners from other brands. I’m talking about a black that was more a medium brown and eyeliners that either vanished or bled within an hour of application. I’ve also had the misfortune to buy liners that, no matter what, won’t apply on the waterline.
In fact, I’ve been eyeliner ‘poor’ for the past few months. Even a multi-pack, tucked inside my favourite subscription box, didn’t hit the spot - they were all brown! Plus, in spite of a no-budge promise, they…budged!
According to Revolution, I could expect a multi-dimensional effect. Instructions for use include a drying time to allow the dual tone to fully form. These aren’t liquid liners, so the ‘let dry’ instruction threw me a bit.
Sleek packaging for a sleek duochrome eyeliner
My first impression was: ‘WOW!’ The twist-up eyeliners come in eye-popping tubes. Metallic, sleek and display-worthy, they give you a sense of what might be inside.
I tried the blue first. Yay! A proper retro blue shade. And the shift? On me, it looks black, which I’m not complaining about. It’s a style I’ve created in the past using blue eyeshadow and black eyeliner. The formula worked perfectly in my waterline and the nib of the liner allowed for precise application. You could easily use this product range for graphic liner looks as well as for framing the eyes.

What surprised me was the depth of the pigmentation - it’s great. One application was all it took. That single application stayed in place for a full seven hours - and I was sweeping sand (don’t ask!) for three of them!
The green eyeliner shifted to brown and then a stunning, shimmering gold. The first time I used it, the green was more of a muted moss than anything especially sparkly, but still a change from my bog-standard black. I've used it again today (when I hadn't already applied a regular eyeliner!) and the shade is a true metallic light grass-green or very light emerald. Stunning.
About the metallic effect... It’s definitely there, although not to the same degree as a foil shadow. I would describe the effect as ‘wearable’ - and that’s a compliment. What Revolution has delivered is an eyeliner formula (I’m assuming it’s a gel, because the product description doesn’t specify) that offers something different without making it so different that you wouldn’t wear it out of the house. Put simply, it’s a burst of colour that glistens.

Duochrome eyeliner benefits
I really like these eyeliners. I like how they apply, the high pigmentation and their staying power.
The twist-up packaging means there’s no need for a sharpener and no waste. The £5.99 price tag is super affordable. Lesser, standard liners can retail for £12-plus - and they require sharpening!
As well as delivering a fun shade shift, the Metallic Duochrome Eyeliner gives a noticeable swipe of colour that can be used either on the lid or in the waterline. It’s perfect for days when I want some colour on my eyes but haven’t got the time to create a look with eyeshadow.
If you are planning to purchase a new eyeliner, this is a product definitely worth considering.
Warmer weather is on the way, meaning holidays and trips to the beach. This is the exact type of product I will be wearing this summer. In fact, I’m going to buy the purple liner as well - because, just like it once was with my old best friend, black, there’s no going back!
