Who said the long, hot bath is dead? Interior designers would have us believe that modern two-ups, two-downs - or even properties of mansion proportions, come to that - are heaven-sent for a tiny shower. If you’re lucky, a modest wet room. For me, there’s no better start to a cosy evening, preferably one that ends curled up with a book, than a fragrant soak and luxurious body wash ritual.
The smells, the lather and, ultimately, the rinse are underrated steps in the quest to end up with lightly scented, totally clean skin. There is nothing quite like it to soothe the mind, relax the body and, eventually, aid sleep. Which brings me to the rise of wash products predominantly designed to be used in the shower. They are popular, but only a few awaken the senses while ticking almost every skincare box. Got a bath, like me? You don’t have to miss out.
Armed with my beloved natural sponge, I relish the moments I spend cleansing my torso with a good body wash. This week, I’ve been lucky enough to try out the Faith in Nature Grapefruit and Orange Body Wash. This product is packed with natural ingredients, is cruelty-free and suitable for vegans. It appealed because of its natural scent. It is also free from SLS and SLES, which is important to me as a cancer survivor. Another big plus point is that Faith in Nature is an indie UK brand, which is this year celebrating its 50th anniversary. Happy birthday! The brand has an established history and, even better, this product is not just formulated in the UK, it’s made here too.
Faith in Nature body wash ingredients
Before I describe my experience of using the body wash, I want to explore some of the ingredients.
The product boasts soothing and moisturising oat extract, as well as natural lime flower, known for its antibacterial, brightening and anti-ageing properties, and elderberry, an antifungal with skin balancing powers. These key ingredients are combined with grapefruit and orange essential oils to deliver an hydrating body cleanser with an eco-friendly fragrance.
Notable ingredients include:
Citrus Reticulata (Tangerine) Peel Oil - fends of free radicals and boosts collagen production. This oil is suitable for sensitive skin; it’s soothing and defends the skin’s natural barrier.
Litsea Cubeba Fruit Oil - a natural astringent, known to tighten pores and smooth the skin. This Asian ingredient is also an antioxidant and antimicrobial. It is recognised for its healing properties and use as an effective and safe cleanser.
Cymbopogon Flexuosus Oil - commonly known as lemongrass, fights bacteria and tackles greasy skin. This ingredient is also revered for its ability to improve the skin’s elasticity.
Cymbopogon Winterianus Herb Oil - considered an excellent toner with anti-inflammatory and antiseptic properties. This ingredient is recognised for its ability to support wound healing.
Tilia Cordata Flower Extract - soothing, smoothing and hydrating. Proven to condition the skin, this property has multiple benefits. They include skin tightening and moisturising with a crisp sensation. It is also antibacterial and is used in many natural acne treatments, yet is suitable for even the most sensitive skin. Thanks to the extract’s flavonoids and tannins, it also fends off free radicals.
Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil - has multiple skin benefits, making it a staple of skincare products. As well as containing vitamins A, C and D, it’s non-comedogenic, moisturising and an anti-inflammatory. This is another ingredient that aids wound healing.
Maris Sal (Sea Salt) - surprisingly aids skin hydration. This ingredient aids skin regeneration and restores its pH balance. It is also considered cleansing and nourishing.
Faith in Nature’s Grapefruit and Orange Body Wash is alcohol free. That’s good to know, because alcohol strips the skin of its natural oils and is a known irritant. If you have sensitive skin, this is definitely an ingredient you want to avoid. So Faith in Nature is a great brand to explore if you demand a product that doesn’t contain this harsh additive.
Grapefruit and orange body wash
I love a good citrus scent. It’s why I chose this product over Faith in Nature’s popular lavender and geranium alternative. I particularly like grapefruit and have sought out bathing products with this fragrance from multiple brands. The fact that this body wash combines grapefruit with orange makes it even more appealing. I know some people prefer a zesty cleanser in the mornings but, honestly, I can use a zingy burst of fruit morning, noon and night.
The scent in this product is pronounced but definitely not overwhelming. It’s just right. I would say that it delivers a spa-like experience while leaving the skin delicately fragranced.
I used two teaspoons’ worth of the product on a wet natural sponge. The lather was light and creamy. That one application was enough to thoroughly wash the upper part of my body. To rinse, I simply washed out the sponge under a tap and used it again to gently remove any trace of lather.
The body wash left my skin feeling clean and refreshed. It was also hydrated and silky smooth. I wouldn’t say it was the most invigorating wash product I’ve ever used; it was more sensual and relaxing. Just how I like it.
I paid £5 for a 300ml bottle. What you pay will depend on the retailer and size of bottle. The body wash is also available in 400ml and 5000ml containers. Note: Faith in Nature produces body washes in a range of fragrances, including coconut, dragon fruit and wild rose.
This product is Vegan Society approved. It is packed with potent, natural ingredients that are also kind to the skin. As a body wash, it’s a good all-rounder and is definitely a keeper for me.
I’ve got Faith in Nature. Have you?
