Dr Organic Ageless Eye Contour Serum review

Let’s cut to the chase, I’m on the prowl for an eye contour serum that smooths, lifts, brightens and hydrates. I want my under-eye area to defy my years and help me achieve and maintain a youthful appearance. An eye product, particularly a contouring one, has to deliver on all fronts because, after all, the eye area is the defining feature of the face. Dr Organic Ageless Eye Contour Serum promises to plump and smooth, as well as moisturise the skin. No mention of brightening, but this product does include plant-based ingredients that are rich in Vitamin C.

The eye serum contains a blend of organic seaweed and marine extracts, and is suitable for all skin types. Dr Organic describes the formula as velvety smooth. Sold in a 15ml pot, it retails for anything from £5 to £9.99. The serum is vegan and certified organic.

Why try this brand? I am always on the lookout for new skincare products that target signs of ageing under the eyes. My holy grail serum is The Ordinary Caffeine Eye Solution; it gets rid of the bag under my left eye with no sweat. However, like many effective anti-ageing treatments, it needs alternating with other products. I find that, with continuous use, the benefits diminish after a couple of months. In other words, the solution appears to stop working.

To keep the eye area plumped and smooth during breaks from my favourite product, I use a variety of serums and creams. High-strength retinol has been the most effective, to date. I’ve also seen results with creams sold in tubes with an electronic vibrating delivery system. So, how did I get on with Dr Organic Ageless Eye Contour Serum?

Organic eye contour serum

Dr Organic, as the name suggests, is a clean, plant-based beauty brand. The packaging for its eye contour serum reflects this. While the outer box is quite attractive, the glass jar is just that little bit too eco-friendly in appearance to warrant a display spot on my dressing table. The metal lid, in spite of its detailed embossing, is what spoils it. I must point out that Dr Organic goes the extra mile to ensure the serum reaches consumers in perfect condition - the interior of the box is designed to hold the jar securely in place until it is opened.

Because you only get 15ml of product in the jar, it is small. However, like many serums, a little goes a long way - so don’t be put off by the size. You hardly have to touch the product to pick up enough to apply to both under-eye areas.

While the word ‘brightening’ is not used by Dr Organic to promote this serum, it does mention ‘tone’. As well as seaweed, this serum is infused with rosemary and sea fennel, which are both recognised for their skincare benefits. As well as improving hydration, these active ingredients can boost the appearance of the skin.

Rosemary is an anti-inflammatory that smooths and brightens the skin. Sea fennel supports collagen production and calms the skin while delivering intense hydration. The main active ingredient in the serum is seaweed extract, which is super-rich in antioxidants. As well as boasting high levels of brightening Vitamin C, it also contains vitamins K, B, A, and E. These are known to improve the skin’s elasticity as well as its texture and tone.

One of the things that instantly drew me to the eye contour serum is its runny consistency. Yes, it is a serum. But it is also like a very light, silky gel cream. It has that opacity to it that suggests it will be quickly absorbed into the skin. ‘Velvety smooth’? Yes.

I initially used this product in the mornings. Primarily, I wanted to boost hydration levels under the eyes before applying makeup. The aim was to prevent caking and to stop foundation from settling in fine lines. If it delivered plumping at the same time, all the better.

The serum is a delight to use. Super soft and almost weightless, it is instantly cooling. There is no overwhelming scent and the serum is non-greasy. Was it hydrating? Yes, it was. Did it plump the skin? I’d say, it did. Now we’re not talking dramatic plumping here, but definitely some minor fine line reduction from the first use. I would say that this serum did also slightly diminish that pesky bag under my left eye. I would also say the serum instantly brightens the skin just because of the type of formula it is.

Impressed with the serum's performance during the day, I decided to try it as an overnight mask. I simply applied the product on top of my evening serum, before I used a night cream. The result? A beautifully hydrated under-eye area.

An eye contour serum worth buying?

I like this serum. It’s not an ‘all-rounder’, in terms of instant everything. However, it is deeply hydrating. When you want to tackle fine lines, proper moisturisation is the place to start. So, I would recommend this product as a daily eye treatment for those in their 30s and 40s. If you are older than that, like me, you may want to use this product as a primer under makeup or in conjunction with a retinol night cream or hyaluronic acid day cream. I think, with regular use, you will both feel and see a reasonable difference.

Dr Organic is a cruelty-free brand and its products are all manufactured in the UK and Italy. Its Ageless range includes a number of anti-ageing products. While the eye contour serum delivers value for money and some great skincare benefits, I think the word ‘contour’ lets it down. It suggests tightening and lifting when the main benefits of this product are hydration and plumping. It’s all about perceptions and anyone buying the serum expecting it to ‘contour’ the eye area is going to be slightly disappointed. It is not the all-rounder I’m desperately searching for, but I like the benefits it does offer.

Would I buy the serum again? Yes. I like the results it delivers when used under makeup.
