Micellar Water – Best Buys For Easy Makeup Removal

It is hard to believe that micellar water, a staple of the evening skin care regime, has only been widely available in the UK for around eight years. Prior to that, removing heavy eye makeup, including stubborn mascara and eyeliners, was a real problem. This product made the process quick and gentle, offering benefits to people of all ages – especially those with mature skin.

It transformed the way we take off not just beauty products but rid the skin of pollutants and other impurities. What women, in particular, love about this cleanser is that it is effortless to use. There is no need for harsh chemicals, rubbing or scrubbing. Simply glide a makeup remover pad over the face and job done.

What Is Micellar Water?

As its name suggests, this product is made from water. It is purified to remove irritants and pollutants. Its hydrating properties come from added ingredients. Kind-to-the-skin surfactants are also added because they are highly effective at breaking down oils commonly deposited on, or even produced by, the skin. In fact, they fuse to make up microscopic micelles, or spheres, that work like magnets to attract anything that should not be on your face.

Micellar water is a world away from old-style cleansers. As well as being quick and easy to use, it leaves the skin feeling fresh and soft. It has a different texture to other cleansers, some of which can deplete the skin of natural oils. The first time you use this product, you may think it feels slightly oily. This is quite normal.

How To Use Micellar Water

First up, micellar water is not a substitute for a toner or moisturiser. It should only be used to remove makeup at the start of your skin care routine. Because it leaves the skin feeling silky smooth, some people forget that they still need to tone and moisturise the skin. This is because it is just a cleanser – albeit a very gentle one.

A toner is required to keep your skin in balance and a moisturiser to ensure the skin is hydrated. If you have mature skin, you should also pop a serum into the mix before you apply a night cream. A good toner will help to even out your skin colour and promote a healthy glow.

Use micellar water by squeezing it onto a cotton pad. Simply sweep across the face. To remove caked on eye makeup, hold in place for a few seconds. It’s as simple as that. No washing. No fuss.
