How Deliciously Scented Body Butters Defend Your Skin Against Infection

Hands up if you have ever been given a body butter, cream or lotion and thought it was a rubbish present. That will be most of you, then! We know plenty of people who put body moisturisers in the same category as out-dated bath cubes and talc. But these simple, often completely natural, products are not just great for conditioning your skin, they can help ward off infection too.

The skin is a huge organ – the biggest in the body, in fact – and it is under constant attack. It’s important to ensure sores or breaks in the skin don’t develop – because that is exactly how germs get in.

If you have a medical condition or take prescribed drugs that impact your immune system, keeping your whole body clean and moisturised is an absolute must.

Who Needs To Moisturise Their Skin?

Everyone needs to keep their skin soft and free of dry patches. The lower legs, elbows, knees and hands are notorious entry points for bacteria.

For some people, dry or broken skin can lead to serious illness. For example, those who have had lymph nodes removed as part of breast cancer surgery. The arm on the affected side should be kept clean and soft at all times, with fragrance-free body butter or lotion being massaged into the skin in upward motions.

If someone who has had nodes removed develops an infection, they should call their GP immediately and request antibiotics.

Cosmetic Reasons To Use Body Butter

Body butter gives the skin a beautiful sheen – great for the holiday/summer look. It is also the perfect base for a wide range of other treatments, including self-tans. It’s also ideal for use after shaving.

*** If your skin is very dry, we recommend using E45 Dermatological Moisturising Cream. It is known for its ability to effectively soothe dry, flaking or chapped skin. You can also use it to calm sunburn and treat detergent hands.

This product is further recommended for more serious dry skin conditions. If you are prone to eczema, dermatitis, ichthyosis or psoriasis, it is ideal.

The cream is manufactured using lanolin, light liquid paraffin and white soft paraffin. If you need an emollient with moisturising properties, this product will keep your skin hydrated and infection-free.

This is all so true. I did not appreciate the need to moisturise daily until I had all my lymph nodes removed from one arm as part of treatment for breast cancer. I developed lymphedema but I am able to keep it under control by looking after my skin well. A good cream is an absolute must and at least I always smell good! Great article!
